Companion Videos researched images and music that will relax an individual with Alzheimer's or dementia who is agitated. We have found that our 30 minute videos capture the attention of the Alzheimer patient and provide the caregiver with a much needed respite.
Our videos meet two needs that Alzheimer patients have: reduce the length and amount of chaotic stimulus faced on a daily basis and to provide a relaxing stimulus.
Research has shown that there is a need to decrease the length and amount of stimulus. Even during the earlier part of the day, an individual with Alzheimer's can only absorb a limited amount of stimulation and commotion. To realize a reduction in stimulation and commotion, eliminate over-stimulation such as television, children, any noise making item, quick movements and many things going on at one time. The videos produced by Companion Videos provide a quiet alternative to the stimulation from the television and outside sources; basically allowing the patient a "time out" from the outside world, an area to focus on away from the noisy chaos of the outside.
